Corrective Exercise

Corrective Exercise is an integrated training program that re-educates the movement patterns of the body. It is a step by step process which begins with an assessment to establish how the body naturally moves. If any movement dysfunction is noted, joint range of motion and manual muscle testing can be used to isolate the main cause.

Movement is the means by which we perform activities ranging from daily home and work-based tasks to those at a sporting level. Our ability to move is determined by the length of our muscles. Our brains send a message to our muscles to produce movement. If we sit in a certain position for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year our muscles will adopt that posture meaning certain muscles will be overactive and others will be underactive.

Here at Corrective Movement Solutions we aim to utilise the scientific approach of Corrective Exercise to improve your posture and performance, whatever your goal.

What is Corrective Exercise? Corrective Exercise is an integrated training program that re-educates the movement patterns of the body. It is a step by step process which begins with an assessment to establish how the body naturally moves. If any movement dysfunction is noted, joint range of motion and manual muscle testing can be used to isolate the main cause.

The Corrective Exercise Specialist will then devise a Corrective Exercise Program which will inhibit and lengthen the overactive muscles, activate the underactive muscles and then integrate them into a functional movement pattern. This will re-align the body, allowing it to execute tasks with optimum posture, thus reducing the risk of injury and enhancing performance. It is all about getting the right muscle to produce the right movement at the right time.

Who do we work with? Everyone! We work with professional athletes who strive for the perfect performance and those individuals who exercise for fun and relaxation, who simply wish to reduce "niggles" and be injury free.

We prescribe rehabilitation programs for clients, post injury and treatment, assisting in their recovery and helping to prevent the injury from reoccurring.

Testimonials

Frank,
Thank you so much for your help with my painful shoulder. Our initial assessment for my upper body enabled you to pinpoint the correct foam rolling, stretches, activation exercises and functional movement program. Not only have they reduced the pain I was suffering but have also helped improve my posture. Thanks, Frank

Sue,
I initially started Corrective Exercise because I have an on going knee injury. I thought I may have sustained this through poor technique, and thought that improving my posture could only help. I sceptically decided to give it a try. My knee was feeling slightly better through rest before I began the program, however, there was a surprisingly noticeable difference in how loose my legs felt after just two weeks of performing the exercises. Also, during aerobic exercise I felt more agile on my feet, plus I have been getting less back pain when performing squats.

Uzair,
I participated in two full courses of Corrective Exercise and found the results to be precisely what I sought for and more. My Specialist's precision, focus and encouragement, motivated me to push myself further to achieve the desired results. My program was geared towards loosening some muscles and activatng others in my legs to assist me in my on going running events. I feel that these exercises have greatly contributed in helping me achieve an execellent time in this years Sheffield half marathon. I wish to thank my Specialist. I will definitely continue with Corrective Exercise.

Andrew,
I don't know if I was sceptical of the idea of an assessment or not, but it was worth giving a try as any help is better than none..... I soon realised how much i needed to work on! The conclusion of the assessment led to an intense set of exercises, stretches & activities. This will not be a quick fix, but a structured improvement from head to toe. It takes time, alot of patience & a commitment to work to the programme then the results come although not straight away but over time. I have a way to go, some more stretches to work at but realise that i need it all. My health is better, fitness is increasing & generally feel an improvement all round. Thank You.

I can not believe the difference Corrective Exercise has made to my workouts. I have always had problems with my hip movement but after a 4 week intensive program i managed to have skiing lessons and stay upright on the snow. The hard work sure paid off. Thank You

I saw Gemma at each round of the British Superbikes during the 2009 season, i was initially skeptical about the whole foam rolling, but I've got to admit that before each training session at home i was foam rolling & seeing a big difference. I was running ahead of my running buddies & just getting faster & faster. Gemma told me the foam roller would become my new best friend & it sort of did! I know that our sessions just before i went out on the track had a huge impact on how i was riding. I felt more comfortable & at ease with the bike. Thanks mate see you in 2010!

I took up corrective exercise to help me with my marathon running, after the first postural assessment i thought i had no chance of any improvement, but how wrong was i! The third week into my program i decided to try a 12 mile run and couldn't believe my stop watch when i landed back home. I was a whole 9 minutes faster than any time I've ever done. A few tweaks to my program (i don't think the girls like it to become easy!) i headed out for a big 16.5 mile run, there it was again 11 minutes faster i felt good in fact i felt brilliant. I hoping to achieve my best time yet in my marathon in April. Thank You.
